The short answer

Have tyre prices gone up in 2026?

Yes. Tyres cost more than they did a few years ago, and prices have not gone back to old levels. The big reasons are the cost of rubber and oil based materials, energy to make them, and shipping. You can still cut your bill. Pick the right tier for your miles, keep your pressures right, and compare fitted prices, not tyre prices.

You need tyres. The price made you wince. That is normal right now. Almost everything in a tyre got dearer: the rubber, the oil based chemicals, the power to cook it and the ships that bring it here. Our fitted cost guide shows what goes into the number you pay.

Here is the good news. The size of your bill is mostly down to choices you control. The tier you pick. How long your tyres last. Whether you compare the full fitted price or just the sticker. Get those right and you pay less per mile, even while prices are high. See budget vs premium for the quick version.

Want a real number for your car? Send the size or registration. We send back a fitted price and a time. Fitting is priced into the tyre, so there is no call out charge on top. Or call 0300 124 6981. We answer 24 hours a day.

The detail

Have Tyre Prices Gone Up in 2026? Why, and How to Pay Less: the full picture

Covered here: why have tyre prices gone up; what decides the price of your tyre; how can you pay less for tyres without cutting safety; is the cheapest tyre worth it; how do you get a real price for your car.

Why have tyre prices gone up?

A tyre is mostly rubber, steel, fabric and oil based chemicals. Every one of those got more expensive. So did the energy to heat and shape them. Most tyres sold in the UK are made abroad, so shipping costs land on the price too.

Then there are the people. Warehouse staff, drivers and fitters all cost more than they did. None of this is a trick by one company. It is the whole trade. That is why you see the same rise whether you shop online, at a garage or with a mobile fitter.

What you can do is stop paying for things you do not need, and stop replacing tyres early because they wore out badly. That is where the real savings are. Our guide to how long tyres last shows how much life you can win back.

What decides the price of your tyre?

Size first. A bigger rim means a bigger tyre and a bigger price. A small hatchback tyre and a large SUV tyre are in different worlds. The size is the code on the sidewall, like 205/55 R16. The last number is the rim.

Then the tier. Budget, mid range and premium tyres in the same size can be far apart. Then the extras built into the tyre. A higher speed rating, an extra load rating, run flat walls or a tyre made for an electric car all add cost.

Your car decides most of these, not you. You cannot fit a lower load rating than the car needs just to save money. What you do choose is the tier and the model. Read reading your tyre size to see what each part of the code means.

How can you pay less for tyres without cutting safety?

Make your tyres last. That is the biggest saving there is. Low pressure wears the edges fast. Bad tracking wears one side fast. Both throw money away.

Check your pressures once a month, cold, to the figure on the door pillar. If one edge of a tyre is going faster, get the tracking checked before it eats the new set too. Fix a slow puncture early. A tyre driven flat cannot be repaired, but one caught early often can, for £39.95 to BS AU 159.

Then compare quotes properly: the same tyre, fitted, with nothing added later. Two or more tyres can be spread with pay monthly at 0% subject to status. NHS and key workers can ask about up to 30% off. See puncture repairs for what can be saved.

Is the cheapest tyre worth it?

Sometimes. If you drive a few short miles a week around town, a good budget tyre does the job. You will not wear it out before it ages.

If you do big miles, the cheapest tyre can cost you more. A tyre that lasts longer costs less per mile, even if it costs more on the day. Wet grip matters too. Look at the grade on the EU label before you look at the price. An A or B for wet grip stops shorter in the rain than an E.

That gap is worth more than a few pounds when a car pulls out in front of you on a wet night. For most drivers a mid range tyre is the sweet spot. We price more than one tier where we can, so you see the real gap and choose.

How do you get a real price for your car?

Skip the guesswork. Send us the size from the sidewall, or just the registration. We send back a fitted price and a time, usually within minutes.

The price is the tyre fitted at your home, work or the roadside. There is no call out charge, because fitting is priced into the tyre. Each tyre takes about 20 to 40 minutes. We work across the North West and North Wales, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

If a tyre is already illegal or damaged, do not wait for prices to fall. An illegal tyre can cost up to £2,500 and 3 points, which is far more than the tyre. Message us on WhatsApp at 07943 185471 or call 0300 124 6981. See pay monthly if you need to spread it.

What sets the price

Six things that decide what your tyre costs

Your car decides some of these. You decide the rest.

01Size

Rim and width

Bigger rims and wider tyres cost more. The size code on your sidewall is the starting point for any price.

02Tier

Budget to premium

The same size can be far apart in price between tiers, and in how well it stops in the wet.

03Rating

Load and speed

Your car needs a minimum load and speed rating. Higher ratings cost more, and you cannot go below them.

04Type

Summer, winter, all season

All season and winter tyres use different rubber and patterns, and are often priced differently to summer tyres.

05Build

Run flat, EV, XL

Run flat walls, EV specific tyres and extra load builds all add to the cost of making the tyre.

06Life

Cost per mile

A tyre that lasts longer can cost less per mile, even if it costs more on the day.

Pay less

Six ways to cut your tyre bill without buying a bad tyre

None of these cost much. Most cost nothing.

01

Pressures every month

Check them cold against the door pillar figure. Soft tyres wear their edges fast and burn more fuel.

02

Fix tracking early

One edge wearing faster means tracking. Sort it before it ruins the new tyres as well.

03

Catch punctures early

A slow leak caught early can often be repaired. A tyre driven flat has to be replaced.

04

Pick the right tier

Low miles suit a good budget tyre. High miles suit mid range or premium, which cost less per mile.

05

Compare fitted prices

Put fitted price next to fitted price for the same tyre. A cheap sticker price can grow at the counter.

06

Spread the cost

Two or more tyres can go on pay monthly at 0% subject to status, so you do not buy cheap just to get by.

FAQs

Common questions

Short answers first, the detail underneath.

Yes. Tyres cost more than they did a few years ago, and prices have not gone back to where they were. Rubber, oil based materials, energy and shipping all got dearer, and that shows up in every tyre. The good news is that how long your tyres last matters more to your bill than the sticker price.

The rise hit the whole trade, not one shop. So you will see it online, at garages and with mobile fitters. Shopping around still helps, but only if you compare the same tyre, fitted, with nothing added later. Our cost guide shows what a fair fitted quote looks like. Use it as a checklist when the quotes come in. It takes two minutes and can save you a nasty surprise at the counter.

Want to beat it? Make each tyre last. Check pressures monthly, fix tracking and catch slow punctures early. A set that goes the distance costs less per year, even at today's prices. That is money you keep without buying a worse tyre. Send us your registration for a fitted price, or call 0300 124 6981. Read how long tyres last for the signs to watch.

Tyres are expensive because they are hard to make well. A tyre is rubber, steel, fabric and chemicals, built in layers and cooked under heat and pressure. All of those materials cost more now, and so does the energy and the shipping. Bigger sizes, higher ratings and run flat walls push the price up further.

There is a lot riding on four small patches of rubber, each about the size of your hand. They steer, brake and grip for a car weighing well over a tonne. That takes serious engineering, and the best tyres spend years in testing. Our tyre brands guide explains why some cost more than others. Some of that cost is real engineering. Some is the name.

You do not have to buy the dearest to be safe. A good mid range tyre suits most drivers. A decent budget tyre suits low mileage cars. Tell us how you drive and we will price the tiers side by side. Then you choose with the facts in front of you, not a sales pitch. Call 0300 124 6981 or read budget vs premium tyres.

New tyres in the UK cost anything from a modest sum for a small budget tyre to many times that for a large premium or run flat tyre. There is no single price. It depends on your size, the tier and the ratings your car needs. The quickest way to a real number is to send your registration.

We do not publish a price list because it would be wrong by next week and wrong for most cars. Instead we quote your exact tyre, fitted, at your home, work or the roadside. There is no call out charge, because fitting is priced into the tyre. See the sizes we fit for the common ones.

Ask for more than one tier. The gap between budget and premium is often bigger than people expect, and so is the gap in wet grip. Seeing both side by side makes the choice easy. Then pick the one that suits your miles. WhatsApp 07943 185471 or call 0300 124 6981. Pay monthly at 0% subject to status is there for two or more tyres.

One tyre costs whatever that size and model costs, fitted. We quote single tyres the same way as sets, with fitting priced in and no call out charge. You can replace just one tyre if the others are healthy, but try to match it to the tyre on the other side of the same axle.

A single new tyre next to a worn one can make the car pull or feel uneven under braking. If the tyre on the other side is close to the limit, doing both makes sense. If it has plenty of tread, one is fine. Tell us the tread on the other side and we will say which. Our guide on replacing two tyres or four sets out when each is right.

If the tyre is only damaged by a nail or screw, you might not need a new one at all. A repair in the central three quarters of the tread, up to 6mm, is £39.95 to BS AU 159. Send a photo and we will tell you which it is. Call 0300 124 6981 or see can a puncture be repaired.

With us, fitting is part of the tyre price. There is no separate fitting charge and no call out charge, so the price you get is the tyre fitted at your door. Other places charge in other ways. Some add a fitting fee per tyre, and some add balancing, valves or disposal on top.

That is why comparing fitting costs alone gets confusing fast. One place looks cheap on the tyre and dear on the extras. Another is the other way round. The only number that matters is what you pay in total for the same tyre, fitted and ready to drive. Our mobile vs garage guide shows how to line two quotes up fairly.

Fitting takes about 20 to 40 minutes per tyre. The old tyre comes off, the new one goes on, the wheel is balanced and the pressures set. You do not need to drive anywhere or sit in a waiting room. You get the time back as well as a fair price. Most people carry on working, or stay in with the kids, while we fit. Send your size or reg, or call 0300 124 6981. Read how it works.

The cheapest way to buy tyres is to make them last, then compare fitted prices for the tier that suits your miles. Keep pressures right, fix tracking early and catch punctures before they ruin a tyre. When you do buy, compare the full fitted price for the same tyre, not the sticker price alone.

The cheapest tyre on the day is not always the cheapest over its life. A tyre that lasts longer can cost less per mile. And a tyre that grips well in the rain can save you far more than money. Think about the wet school run, not just the price tag. Our guide to the best budget brands shows where cheap tyres are still good.

Watch out for extras. A low online price can grow once fitting, balancing, valves and disposal are added. Check the final screen before you pay. Ours is one fitted figure with no call out charge. What we quote is what you pay. Send the size or registration and see. Call 0300 124 6981 or read budget tyres to see which cars they suit.

Budget tyres are worth buying if you drive low miles, mostly in town, on a smaller car. A good budget tyre is safe and legal. If you cover big miles or drive fast on motorways, a mid range or premium tyre usually lasts longer and grips better, which can make it cheaper per mile.

Not all budget tyres are equal. Some are decent. Some wear fast and stop poorly in the wet. The brand name alone will not tell you which is which. Check the wet grip grade on the EU label before you buy. A or B is good. E is poor. It takes ten seconds and tells you a lot. Our tyre label guide explains each grade.

Tell us how many miles you do and what kind of roads. That is all we need to point you the right way. We will tell you straight whether a budget tyre makes sense, or whether you would be better off spending a bit more. No upsell. If budget is right for you, we will say so. Call 0300 124 6981 or read mid range tyres to see the middle option.

The cheapest way into a premium tyre is often an older range from a premium maker, or a range made for everyday cars rather than sports models. Premium makers sell several ranges at very different prices. Ask for a quote on more than one model in your size and compare the wet grip and the price.

Premium does not have to mean the flagship. The newest top range tyre carries the biggest price. The range below it is often close in grip for much less. Last year's hero tyre can still be a great tyre today, at a friendlier price. Our premium tyres guide shows where the value sits.

Be honest with yourself about whether you need premium at all. Most cars on a school run do not. Many drivers are better served by a strong mid range tyre and the money saved. Premium makes the most sense on big miles, heavy cars and fast motorway driving. We will price both so you can see the gap. Send your registration or call 0300 124 6981. Read tyre brands explained too.

Tyres in the same size cost different amounts because of the maker, the model, the rubber compound and the testing behind them. Premium touring tyres use costly compounds for wet grip, low noise and long life. Extra load ratings, higher speed ratings, run flat walls and EV versions all add to the price as well.

A touring tyre is built for comfort, low noise and even wear over long miles. That is harder to do than it sounds, which is why the best ones cost more. If you do long runs every week, you feel the difference in comfort and in how long the tyre lasts. Our guide to tyres for long motorway runs covers what to look for.

The label helps you compare. Wet grip, fuel efficiency and noise are all graded. Two tyres with the same grades and very different prices are worth a closer look. Sometimes the dearer one lasts longer. Sometimes you are paying for the name. Ask us to price two or three models so you can see. Call 0300 124 6981 or see speed and load ratings.

We would not. Part worn tyres are legal to sell if they meet strict rules, but you cannot see inside them. A tyre that was driven flat or hit a pothole can look fine outside and be damaged within. You also start with less tread, so it wears out sooner and costs more per mile.

Part worn tyres must have at least 2mm of tread and be marked as part worn to be sold legally. Even then, you do not know their history, their age or how they were stored. You are trusting a stranger with your brakes. Our guide to part worn tyres covers the rules and the risks. Read it before you hand over cash.

If money is tight, a new budget tyre is a safer choice, and pay monthly can spread the cost of two or more at 0% subject to status. You get fresh tread and a known history. And you know it has never been driven flat. NHS and key workers can ask about up to 30% off. Call 0300 124 6981 or read the NHS discount.

To make tyres last longer, keep the pressures right, get the tracking checked if one edge wears faster, and drive smoothly. Hard braking, fast cornering and hitting kerbs all take life off a tyre. Swapping front and rear tyres can even out wear on some cars. Catch slow punctures early too.

Pressure is the big one. A soft tyre flexes more, runs hotter and wears both edges. It burns more fuel as well. Check monthly, when the tyres are cold, against the figure on the door pillar. A cheap gauge from any motor shop does the job in two minutes. Our guide to the right tyre pressure shows where to find it.

Tracking is next. A knock from a kerb or pothole can put it out, and then one edge wears in a few thousand miles. Watch for a pull or an off centre steering wheel. Either one is a sign to get it checked soon. If you want a second opinion on the wear, send a photo or call 0300 124 6981. See is tyre rotation worth it.

Nobody can promise that, and we will not guess. Prices follow materials, energy and shipping, and those move for reasons outside anyone's control. What we can say is this: if your tyres are worn or damaged now, waiting for a price drop is a bad bet. An illegal tyre can cost up to £2,500 and 3 points.

Worn tyres also stop worse in the rain. That risk does not wait for prices to settle. A car stops on what is left of the tread, not on what the tyre cost. If your tread is close to 1.6mm, change it now and choose a tier that fits your budget. Do not let the price put you off the job. Our guide to when to replace tyres lists the signs.

If the upfront cost is the problem, spread it. It is better than running a bald tyre for another month. Pay monthly at 0% subject to status covers two or more tyres, fitted at your door. Send the size or registration for a fitted price, or call 0300 124 6981. See pay monthly tyres for how it works.
