The short answer

Can I get 225/45 R17 tyres fitted at home?

Yes, we fit 225/45 R17 tyres at your home, work or the roadside, anywhere in the North West and North Wales, 24 hours a day. It is on the van, so same day is normal. Send a WhatsApp with the reg or size. A fitted price comes back with an arrival time, and there is no call out charge.

A tyre warning on the dash as you leave the gym. Or the tester says both fronts are near the limit. This is the size on sporty trims: Golf GT and GTD, Leon FR, A3 S line, 1 Series M Sport. The Corolla Design, i30, Ceed, A Class, 308, Astra and Tipo wear it too.

Our vans carry it, so the fit happens at your car, usually that same day. Balanced, new valve, old tyre gone. One thing worth knowing. This size is sold as a long life touring tyre and as a softer performance tyre. The soft one grips harder and wears out sooner. We always tell you which one you are being quoted. Read how mobile tyre fitting works.

Each quote lists a budget, a mid range and a premium option. Two or more can be spread on pay monthly at 0%, subject to status. WhatsApp the size, or call 0300 124 6981, and we give you a time.

Send the tyre size. We send back a fitted price and a time.

You are through to YourNewTyres. What size are the tyres?

The size is printed on the sidewall, like 205/55 R16. Send that and where you are, and I will come back with a fitted price and the next slot.

A photo of the sidewall does the job if you would rather not type it out.

Where it happens

Three ways a 225/45 R17 lets you down

Sporty trims, lower tyres, busy roads. Here is what we do.

01A57

Kerbed on the Mancunian Way

A tight lane, a high kerb and a hiss. The Leon FR is losing air fast. Get off at the next exit. Send a pin and the size and we meet you there.

02MOT

An advisory for the inner edges

The fronts look fine from the kerb side. The tester found the inside worn smooth. We fit two on your drive the same day and point out the likely cause.

038:55

A soft tyre in the office car park

The Golf GT was fine this morning. By lunch one corner is low. Leave the keys at reception. The new tyre is on before your last meeting.

Flat or worn

Flat or worn 225/45 R17? We come to you, same day.

A nail picked up on the way home. Or inner edges that wore out without warning. Both are common on sporty trims, and both get fixed at the car. WhatsApp the size or call 0300 124 6981.

Nail in it? A £39.95 repair could save it

Pull over as soon as the car feels wrong. On a lower tyre, even a mile driven soft can wreck it inside. If the hole sits in the central tread and the tyre was not run flat, a BS AU 159 repair for £39.95 often does it. We inspect the inside with the tyre off the rim before we decide. Shoulder or wall damage means a new tyre. We carry it, so it goes on there and then.

Worn to the limit? 1.6mm is the law

The minimum is 1.6mm across the middle three quarters. Drop below it and you face up to £2,500 and 3 points per tyre. Sports suspension often wears the inside edge first, where you cannot see it. So a tyre can look legal and be bald on the inside. We check the full width of every tyre. Fronts wear as a pair, so we fit them as a pair on the axle.

Budget, mid range or premium in 225/45 R17?

Here the tier sits on top of a bigger choice: touring or performance. A touring tyre lasts longer and rides quieter. A performance tyre grips harder and wears out sooner. You can get both in budget, mid range and premium. We label each quote clearly and put the EU wet grip grade beside it. You choose with the facts in front of you.

FAQs

225/45 R17 tyre questions

What GT, FR, M Sport and S line owners ask us.

It comes down to the tier, the brand and whether you want a touring or a performance tyre. A budget touring tyre sits at one end. A premium performance tyre sits at the other. Send the reg on WhatsApp and we send fitted prices across the range. Fitting, balancing, a valve and disposal are all included.

We keep prices off the website because they move with the market. A figure from last month is no use to you tonight. Our method stays the same. The fitting is built into the tyre price, so there is no call out charge and no night rate. Tyre prices in 2026 explains what pushes prices up and down. The number we send is the number you pay.

The lower price is not always the cheaper choice. A soft performance tyre that wears out sooner can cost more per mile than a dearer touring one. Tell us roughly how many miles you do and how you drive. We will say which one pays back. Two or more can go on pay monthly at 0%, subject to status. The fitted price does not change.

You should always be told, and with us you are. This size is made as a long life touring tyre and as a softer performance tyre. They look almost the same on a quote. The touring one lasts longer and rides quieter. The performance one grips harder and wears faster. We name the type next to every price.

The speed rating is a clue. It is the letter after the load number on the tyre wall. A W or Y rating often points to a performance build. An H or V is more often a touring tyre. It is not a perfect rule, which is why we just tell you. Speed rating and load index explains the letters. Never fit below the rating your car needs.

So which should you pick? If you do lots of motorway miles and want a set to last, go touring. If you enjoy the car on a back road and accept changing sooner, go performance. Both are safe and legal. Performance tyres covers the trade in plain words. Still unsure? Call 0300 124 6981 and tell us how you drive. We give you a straight answer.

Usually, yes. 225/45 R17 is carried on our vans, so there is nothing to order. We are out 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Across our core area, a van reaches you in about 32 minutes on average. Send your postcode and we give you an honest time.

Want a particular brand, or a performance tyre the van is not carrying? That may be an order. We tell you before you agree, with a real time for the fit. Most drivers take what is on board and are back on the road the same day. Want all season grip for winter? This size comes with the mountain and snowflake mark too. XL versions exist for heavier cars. Can you fit tyres at home answers the common worries about driveways, streets and parking.

All we need is a flat, safe spot to jack the car. A street outside the house is fine. So is a work car park, as long as we are allowed on site. Tell us about any barrier or permit before we arrive. Mobile fitting vs a garage compares the two on time and cost. Most people never go back to a waiting room. Tell us about any barrier, gate code or permit when you book.

Yes, all over Manchester. The city centre, Didsbury, Chorlton, Levenshulme and out to the ring road. We fit at home, at work or on the side of the road, at any hour. 225/45 R17 is on the van. Message the reg on WhatsApp and you get a fitted price and a time back.

Parked in a city centre car park or on a permit street? We fit where the car is, as long as it is safe and we can reach it. Underground garage under your flat? Tell us before we come, so we can plan where to do the job. Mobile tyre fitting in Manchester has the local detail. Same price, day or night. Give us the level and bay number when you message.

Flat on the M60 or the Mancunian Way? Get off at the next exit if the car is still moving safely. If not, stop, put the hazards on and stand well clear of traffic. Then send your pin, or call 0300 124 6981. We also cover Salford, Stockport and Trafford. The same fitters and the same hours across the whole area. Tell us which direction you were travelling.

Mainly the sportier trims of family hatchbacks. The Golf GT and GTD, SEAT Leon FR, Audi A3 on 35 and 40 TFSI and the BMW 1 Series M Sport all use it. So do the Corolla Design, Hyundai i30, Kia Ceed, Mercedes A Class, Peugeot 308, Vauxhall Astra and Fiat Tipo.

Trim is what decides it. A Golf on a base trim might run 16s, while a GT of the same year runs 17s. The Astra K offers two 17 inch sizes, so the badge is no help at all. Read the tyre wall or the door sticker. Or send the reg and we check. Volkswagen tyres covers the Golf across its generations. We confirm it before the van is loaded.

Not every car on this size is sporty. A Corolla Design or an i30 on 17s is a family car first. A touring tyre suits it well and lasts longer. The softer options make more sense on an FR or an M Sport that gets driven with some spirit. Toyota tyres covers the Corolla. Tell us the car and we suggest the type.

Often, yes, if your car was sold on 16 inch wheels in a lower trim. The two sizes stand almost the same height, so the speedo stays right. But you need 16 inch wheels to go with them. For a flat today, the simple answer is the same size again. We have it on the van.

Why would anyone step down? The 16 inch tyre has a taller wall. It rides softer, it is quieter, and it copes with potholes better. It usually costs less per tyre too. The trade is a slightly less sharp feel and a car that looks less sporty. 205/55 R16 tyres covers that size in full. We only suggest it if your car allows it. You keep your 17s in the garage for later.

Before any change, we check your exact car. Not every trim can take a smaller wheel. We check the wheel size from the reg before anything is ordered. Tyre size explained shows what each number on the wall means. If in doubt, keep what the maker fitted. We will not guess.

Usually it is alignment. Sporty trims sit lower on firmer suspension, and many tilt the wheels in slightly at the top. That wears the inside edge faster. Because it is on the inside, you do not see it from the kerb. A tyre can look fine and still be bald on the inner edge.

We measure across the full width, not just the middle. If the inside is gone, the tyre is gone, whatever the outside shows. New tyres alone will not stop it happening again. If the wear points to alignment, we tell you. Uneven tyre wear explains the patterns and what each one means. A photo of the inner edge helps us judge. It is a common find on lowered sporty trims.

An alignment check after new tyres can add months to their life. Hitting a kerb or a pothole hard can knock it out, so check it after a big bump too. Wheel alignment covers what is involved. Get it done soon after the fit, before the new pair picks up the same wear. Turning the wheel to full lock makes the inner edge easy to see. Wear on both outer edges usually means low pressure instead.

Often, if you stopped quickly. A nail or screw in the central tread of a tyre that was not driven flat can usually be repaired. We do it to BS AU 159, for £39.95. First we remove the tyre and check inside. On a lower tyre, damage from running soft shows up there first.

No repair on the shoulder or the wall. No repair on a tyre with crumbled rubber inside from running flat. No outside plug either, since it is not a safe fix. If we cannot save it, a new tyre comes off the van in the same visit. Puncture repairs explains how we decide and what the repair involves.

If a nail is in and the tyre is holding, leave it alone. Pulling it out usually makes things worse. Drive gently to somewhere safe and send us a photo of it. Is the pressure warning lit? TPMS warning light explains what it is telling you. We reset the system after any repair or new tyre, so the light goes out before we leave. Keep the speed down on the way.

The law says 1.6mm across the middle three quarters of the tread, all the way round. Below it, you could face up to £2,500 and 3 points, per tyre. With two worn fronts, that is six points from one stop. The police can check at any time, not only at the MOT.

Use the wear bars in the grooves. When the tread is level with them, you are at the limit. On this size, check three places across the tyre: inside, middle and outside. Sports suspension can wear one edge long before the rest. Tread wear indicators shows exactly where to look. It takes a minute with a torch. Do it every couple of weeks on a car that sees hard use.

A performance tyre loses wet grip quickly as it wears. That is why many sporty car owners change at around 3mm, not 1.6mm. Heavy rain on the M62 is not the place to find out. Got an advisory? Send a photo of the MOT sheet and we price what it asks for. UK tyre law covers bulges, cuts and the rest of the rules. A bulge is a fail however deep the tread.

Not by law, but it is usually the right call. Tyres on the same axle should match in type and be close on tread. If one front is worn out, the other has done the same miles. Mixing a touring tyre with a performance tyre on one axle is worse still. The car can feel unsettled.

This is where the touring or performance choice matters. If the other front is a performance tyre, fit a performance one to match. Do not pair it with a touring tyre just to save a little. The grip differs, and you feel it when braking hard on a wet road. Mixing tyres covers what is legal and what is sensible. A photo of the other tyre helps us check.

If the second tyre has plenty of life, we tell you, and we fit just one of the same type. We check all four while we are there. No upselling to a full set. Two tyres or four sets out when a pair makes sense and when it is money wasted. Most of the time, matching the axle is enough. That keeps the car balanced left to right.

It can be, for gentle driving and short trips. But these cars are quick, and a budget tyre gives up grip sooner when you push. If you use the performance, go mid range or premium. If the car mostly sits in town traffic, budget is a fair choice. We send all three prices together.

Compare them by the EU label. The wet grip grade, from A to E, tells you how well the tyre stops in the rain. We put it next to every price, so you can see what the extra money buys. Budget vs premium tyres sets out the full trade. Premium here means names like Michelin, Bridgestone and Dunlop. The gap matters more on a fast car than a slow one. Two tyres a grade apart can feel very different on a wet roundabout.

Keeping the car for years? A good mid range tyre often lasts longer, so the cost per mile can be lower. Selling next spring? Budget is honest value. There is no single right answer. Best budget tyre brands lists the names worth trusting in 2026. Tell us your plans for the car and we steer you towards one.

About 20 to 40 minutes a tyre, once the van is with your car. That covers taking the wheel off, fitting the tyre, balancing it and setting the pressure. Add the drive to you, which averages around 32 minutes across our core area. Most jobs are done well inside a lunch break.

You do not need to stand with the car. Leave the keys with someone and carry on with your day. We message when it is finished, with a note of the tread left on the others. How mobile fitting works shows the visit step by step. The old tyre goes with us for recycling, so nothing is left on the drive. You can answer emails in the car or go back indoors.

Want to spread the cost of two or four? Pay monthly is 0% interest, subject to status, on two tyres or more. You apply when you book and we fit as normal. The fitted price is the amount you spread. No fees are added for coming to you. Questions first? Call 0300 124 6981 and we talk it through. A full set of four takes longer, so we plan the time with you.
