No tread gauge? A 20p coin is all you need to check your tyres are road-legal.

The legal minimum tyre tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. Worn tyres are dangerous in the wet and can cost you a £2,500 fine and 3 points per tyre. Here is how to check in seconds:

Push a 20p coin into the main tread grooves.

If the coin’s outer band is hidden, you are above the legal limit.

If you can see the outer band, your tyre may be illegal.

Check at several points across and around each tyre.

Also look for cracks, bulges or objects stuck in the tread. We check all four tyres free on every visit — and if one needs replacing we can fit it there and then.

How much does mobile tyre fitting cost?

You pay for the tyre itself plus a fitting fee — and unlike a garage there is no call-out charge on top, even at 3am on the hard shoulder. That fitting fee already covers balancing, a new valve and taking your old tyre away, so the price we quote is the price you pay. What you spend on the tyre is up to you: budget tyres start low, while premium brands cost more but last longer. Send your reg on WhatsApp for a fixed, all-in price in minutes.

Do you really come to my home to fit tyres?

Yes — it is the only way we work, because we do not have a garage. A fully-equipped mobile van comes to your driveway, work car park or the roadside, and the fitter changes, balances and inflates your tyres right beside your car, usually in 20 to 30 minutes. All you do is hand over the keys and carry on with your day.

How quickly can you get to me?

Our average response time across the North West and North Wales is about 32 minutes, though it depends how far you are from a van and how busy we are. If you are stranded with a blowout or an unsafe flat, say so when you call 0300 124 6981 and we will send the nearest van to you as a priority.

What areas do you cover?

Can you fit tyres at night, weekends and bank holidays?

Yes — we are genuinely 24/7, 365 days a year. Nights, early mornings, Sundays, bank holidays and Christmas Day: a flat tyre does not keep office hours, so neither do we. There is no premium or extra charge for out-of-hours call-outs.

What tyre brands do you fit?

Almost any brand, from value ranges like Landsail, Davanti and Nexen through to the big premium names — Michelin, Continental, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Dunlop, Hankook and Yokohama. Tell us your car and your yearly mileage and we will recommend the best-value option, not just the dearest.

What is the legal tyre tread depth in the UK?

1.6mm. By law your tyres must have at least 1.6mm of tread across the central three-quarters of the tyre and all the way around. Below that you risk a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre, plus an instant MOT failure. Most makers actually recommend replacing at 3mm for wet-weather safety. Not sure? Use the 20p test in the safety section above, or we will check them free when we visit.

Can you repair my puncture or do I need a new tyre?

It depends where the nail or screw is. If it is in the central tread and the tyre is not run-flat or badly worn, we can usually repair it to British Standard BS AU 159 — a fraction of the cost of a new tyre. Punctures in the sidewall or shoulder cannot be repaired safely, so the tyre has to be replaced. We inspect it and give you an honest answer first — see puncture repairs.

Do you fit run-flat tyres and TPMS sensors?

Yes to both. We stock and fit run-flat (RFT) tyres for cars designed to use them, and we can read, repair, replace and reprogram TPMS pressure sensors so your dashboard warning light goes out. We also fit Tyron safety bands for extra run-flat protection.

Do you fit van, 4x4, motorhome and fleet tyres?

Yes. As well as cars we carry correct load-rated van and commercial tyres and 4x4 and SUV tyres, and we fit motorhomes and campers on-site so you are not stuck before a trip. Businesses can set up a priority fleet account to cut vehicle downtime.

Can I pay monthly for my tyres?

Yes — on any order of two or more tyres you can split the cost into simple monthly payments with no hard credit check, so applying will not affect your credit score. It takes a couple of minutes on your phone; just ask the fitter or mention it when you book.

How do I find my tyre size?

Look at the sidewall of your current tyre for a code like 205/55 R16 91V — that is the width, profile, rim size and rating. It is also in your handbook and often on a sticker inside the driver door or fuel flap. Easiest of all, send us your registration and we will look up the exact sizes for your car.
